Day LXIX
Acts 2
36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know beyond a doubt that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.”
37 Now when they heard this, they were acutely distressed and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “What should we do, brothers?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to himself.” 40 With many other words he testified and exhorted them saying, “Save yourselves from this perverse generation!”
Brothers and Sisters during the time of Jesus Christ as you may know the story the Priests, Romans, Elders, Teachers of the Law, Ordinary people ridicule and throw accusations to Jesus. Literally they shouted even more to crucify him on the cross for the sins they accused him of. Did you know that everything that happened then is because of YOU and ME?
Imagine this as my Spiritual Father and Mentor Pastor Larry had illustrated it perfectly. A man is on a death row, in the day of execution - in the moment that his name was called for the killing someone shouted from the crowd to save you from dying and in replacement HE would be more than willing to die on your behalf. That is what Jesus did for you and for me.
In the verses we have read Peter answered the unbelievers for their inquiry how to be saved. This is after the encounter in the Pentecost when the holy spirit comes to all believers and the unbelievers questioned their faith after some discussions with Peter they asked what to do to be transformed.
And this is the answer - First we need to accept that we are sinners admit that we are guilty of being wicked in this fallen world. Believe in Jesus Christ as our savior, God and way to the eternal life. Then being baptized, this is a symbolism of our acceptance to a changed being - cleansed throughout and start living for Christ (start living right). Then after our baptism let us open our heart to the Holy Spirit who is our helper and guide in our Journey in faith with Jesus.
